Mahmudu Bajo is moving to Serbia, as DAC and Red Star Belgrade have reached an agreement on the transfer of the 20-year-old Gambian international. The deal ranks among the biggest transfers in both the club’s history and the entire Niké Liga.

Bajo arrived at DAC in the summer of 2024 from Podbrezová as one of the most talented defensive midfielders in the Niké League. In our colours, he featured in 33 league matches, made two appearances in the UEFA Conference League and three in the Slovnaft Cup. His career will now continue at the record 36-time Serbian champions, who have reached the group stage of the UEFA Champions League four times and the UEFA Europa League four times in the past eight seasons.

“Today we say goodbye to Mahmudu Bajo, who joins Crvena Zvezda in what stands as one of the most significant transfers in our club’s history. We signed Mahmudu just a year ago, recognizing in him the qualities of a modern holding midfielder: intelligence, physicality, and presence. What he brought us went far beyond expectations. He became a key figure in our midfield, a player who gave structure to our game and fight to our team,” said DAC Executive Director Jan Van Daele. He added: “Naturally, it’s never easy to part with someone so important. But this is football. Progress brings both joy and difficult decisions. This move is proof that we’re on the right path, that the wider football world is taking notice of our work, our players, and our ambition. This deal will allow us to strengthen the squad further and continue building a team that can compete for our goals, in the league and beyond.”

The club’s executive director also sent a personal message to the player after the deal was completed: “Thank you for your contribution, your discipline, and your character. You wore our shirt with pride. You leave through the front door, and you will always be part of our story.”
